BlackBox TG1/TG3
The BlackBox TG1/TG3 solution,
This box is a machined aluminum enclosure for Sony's latest side mount HD
camcorder.
The TG1 is the perfect companion in all freefall applications with its very slim
design, light weight and HD format. The camcorder does come with a couple of
challenges that Cookie Composites has had to overcome in the design of this
enclosure.
Firstly the camera has no thread for a wide angled lens- Cookie has been able to
combat this by machining the lens thread straight into the box itself. The
thread size is a very common 30mm. The lens will stay on the BlackBox while you
just slide that camcorder into the box and up against the lens.
Because the camcorder has no view finder or record light it’s essential to have
a remote switch and record light. The BlackBox TG1 has just enough room for the
camera and Hypeye D Pro to slide into the housing enabling remote control of the
camcorder once it’s in place.
The gap between the Blackbox TG1 and the helmet allows access to the camera's
power on/off. This means that without a remote switch you’re still able to power
the Camcorder up and press the record button at the rear. The other advantage of
this design is that it brings the camera away from the helmet to allow clearance
for a wide angle lens and eliminates the risk of filming your helmet. Note:
Neither the Liquid3 or Liquid5 lens will vignette with the BlackBox TG1 but when
using the Liquid3 you may find that the camera could film a small part of the
helmet.
